Transformation of Eros

Christianity is incorrigibly a tantric religion: It is about the transformation of Eros, not the repression of it.

After nearly seven years of spiritual “parallel play” with Todd Smiedendorf, I’m dipping my toe in to explore the Divine Feminine inside his tradition, Christianity... And really enjoying it!

In her online course about Mary Magdalene, Bourgeault talks about how Jesus and Mary Magdalene found enlightenment through their passionate love for each other... This transformation of Eros (personal love) into Agape (universal love) is the key to the whole wisdom tradition, according to Bourgeault.

In conscious intimate love, she says, the transformation of passion into enlightenment happens like this:

Desire, rather than being specifically focused on one person — moves right through the person as a chalice, to embrace the whole of the cosmos.

That’s the heart of Christianity. We’ve spent two thousand years running, scared shitless from that heart.
